Peppermint essential oil comes from the leaves of the peppermint plant. The well-known scent can be attributed to the high menthol and menthone content of the oil. Our peppermint oil is strong, sweet, and very minty.
Did you know the name for the plant originates in Greek Mythology? Persephone, wife of Hades, became angry at the nymph Minthe for trying to seduce Hades and turned her into a plant. Now it may have been that Minthe and Hades were a thing well before Persephone and that's why she was really jealous. In any case, though Hades was unable to reverse what his wife had done, he did ensure that Minthe would forever be loved and adored for her lovely fragrance. Also, the plant is sacred to Hades and is often used in funerary rites.
